What an achievement!! A simple folding chair originally produced in 1889 is still in production 125 years later. Originally designed for the lemonade sellers of Paris, the Bistro Chair can now be found around the world.

In the late 19th century the Bistro chair was an instant success. Originally adorning the open air cafes along the banks of the Seine it was used by the lemonade sellers to avoid paying the tax for a permanent terrace. It also won popularity among their customers, engineers and artists for its typically French style.

The Fermob bistro chair is the direct decendant of the original model, using the original Simplex patent registered by Edouard Leclerc in 1889. The chair maintains the originals iconic shape, but features a few updates including metal slats and a substantial palatte of colour choices.

This year the Bistro chair and the Eiffel tower celebrate their 125th anniversary together. And the humble street chair pays homage to the towering monument of the French Revolution by recreating a second tower made entirely from bistro chairs.
